I have an oil painting that is about 5 months old and I’m proud of it. I wish to preserve it but am not sure how to or what to use. Please help.

Ray,

Hi Ray,

There are various acrylic sprays and paint preservation sprays on the market to help preserve paintings. Remember most paintings will last 75 to 200 years as they are. Adding Sprays helps to keep the brightness of the colors during this time. Longevity also depends upon the type of surface you’ve painted on i.e…. masonite, wood, cotton, paper, canvas, etc….

However, for most sprays, you need to wait anywhere from 6 months to 2 years before spraying. Only one can you add any time and that’s the Bob Ross brand name oil painting spray.

You’ll have to read the instructions to find when/how to spray.

You can find most of these sprays in on-line stores or at your favorite arts and crafts supply stories i.e. Michael’s, AC Moore, Hobby Lobby, Jo-Ann, etc…
