Darrell’s Diet.
I’ve had a lot of requests to share the diet I’ve been on. Some folks have indicated they’d like to go on the same diet, but without the surgery. It will take will power, but here it is …………..
From Feb to the operation I ate 3 meals and 3 snacks dailly.
The snacks consisted of:
1. Hummus with whole wheat crackers or melba toast.
2. Salad
3. Low-fat, sugar free gelatin or plain yogurt (1/4 cp) with nuts (1 tbls) or one medium fruit.
Breakfast:
1 cup of cooked oatmeal
Lunch
Salad with 4 oz meats.
Dinner
Salad or one cup of vegetable with 4 oz meats
Two hours daily exercises of low impact aerobics and weight lifting.
After The Surgery.
Stage 1 Diet:
Water: 1 fluid ounce every hour.
Duration: 1 day.
Stage 2 Diet:
Clear Liquids: 1-3 fluid ounces every hour
(Broth, water, sugar free gelatin, decarbonated flat diet gingerale)
Duration: 2 days
Stage 3 Diet:
4 ounces of Protein Drink every 2 hours up to 8 times daily. This is Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast with 1% milk.
8 ounces of clear liquids every other other alternation with above.
Duration 3 weeks
Stage 4 Diet:
Typically 1/3 cup of soft or pureed foods at each of the three meals and 203 daily snacks.
- Yogurt 4 oz
- Tofu, extra firm 3 oz
- 2% Cottage Cheese 1/3 cup
- Fat Free Roctta Cheese 1/3 cup
- low fat cheese 2 ounces
- Refried Beans with no added fat 1/3 cup
- No added sugar baked beans 1/3 cup
- Baby foot meats All types one 2 1/4 ounce jar
- Split Pea Soup 6 ounces
- Pureed soup 6 ounces
- Protein Powder 4 ounces
- Whipped potato (thin) 1/3 cup
- Cream of Wheat 1/3 cup
- Unsweetened applesauce pureed fruit 1/3 cup
- If it gives you gas, use it with Beano.
Duration: 5 weeks
Clear liquids. No more than 8 ounces per hour.
Stage 5: Final Meal plan for life
Gradual introduction of solid foods
3 small meals per day and 2-3 small snacks. Generally eating every 2 hours.
Plan nutritionally balanced meals with your nutritionist.
Typical breakfast: 1 slice toast, 1 ounce melted cheese
Typical lunch: 3 oz tuna, 1 Tbsp light mayo
Typical dinner: 2 oz chicken breast, 2 tbsp butternut squash
Typical snacks: 1/2 fruit, or 2 oz shaved turkey wrapped in one slice cheese and 1 lettuce leaf, or 6 ounces vegetable juice.
Eat from all food groups
High fat, high-sugar foods are now allowed due to intolerance and high-caloric intake.
Individuals may not tolerate specific foods (Common or past, rice and bread, meat fish or poultry that is dry or tough, raw fruits and vegetables). Everyone is different. Make note of your intolerances.
